The Family Watchdog

1:30 am, Friday December 5. All is quiet. Everyone has been sleeping for over 2 hours, which in our house is unheard of. Suddenly, out of the quiet, a dog starts barking furiously. After a few seconds, we realize that it is not just any dog, but our dog, that is in our house. Being as all our reaction times are considerably slower than when we had babies in the house, I don't make it downstairs to see what the ruckus is about, Samson has to come and get me. At times like these, he is almost Lassie like. You can see in his eyes and the wiggle of his body that he is saying "Come on Mom, somethings wrong!" Now, you should know, that I would never have followed him down if this had been his growling bark that is reserved for the mailman, solicitors (that can't read the "no soliciting" on the door), or certain un-likable neighborhood children. This was his "Somethings not right here, and I'm going to get to the bottom of it bark". It could've also been his "Someone is puking and it sounds nasty" bark, but it wasn't. So, he leads me downstairs to the living room, and there I see the culprit. Sometime last night, while Samson was apparently napping, SOMEONE had moved HIS couch and replaced with a large poky tree. I informed him that it was the damn Christmas tree for hells sake, go to bed, and walked away. I did do my duty and check on mom and Kate to make sure they were ok, and the only way to properly check on someone in the middle of the night is to wake them as loudly as possible and ask "Are you ok?". They were fine. So off I go, back to bed, where I tell Dave it was the tree's fault. Can't wait to turn the lights on and decorate it, he'll probably refuse to walk in the room at all.

That is so funny. I can just hear you telling him it's just the tree.
