When your children reach a certain age, you tend to relax on a few of the safeguards you had in place when they were younger. For instance, the need to cover electrical outlets usually passes after the child is around 4, or if it is the 3rd child, the child has learned the hard way because said parent got tired of prying out the cover every time she vacuumed. Not that this ever happened to me of course. Or lets take for instance, markers. When you have a baby and/or toddler, markers are forbidden (unless, again, this is your 3rd child). Then around age 3 or 4, you venture into the washable (lol) markers. Once they are in school, most responsible parents figure that the child's teacher has taught them how not to color all over themselves and you allow markers. Which is why until a couple of days ago, Sharpies of all colors could be found in various drawers in our house. Surely a 10 year old, a nearly 8 year old, and an almost 6 year old could be trusted right? Wrong. The boys "tagged" their own room, repeatedly, the other night. They have now spent all evening with Mr. Clean and his magic eraser removing their artwork. Of course, neither one could take the blame, each claiming the other did all the work. I'm sure that's why half of them were at Ty's eye level and the other half at Jacks. Two things I learned from this experience...A. my boys have terrible handwriting, and B. Light blue Sharpie comes off much easier than black.
I can hardly wait for summer!
