Lets face it. I've been waiting for this call for 4 years, since Jack started school. You know the"we need you to come right away, you've failed as a parent and you kid just proved it". So, here's how it went down. Jack calls me and says he's not feeling good and can he come home. Normally, given the symptoms, I would have told him to suck it up for another 2 hours. The fight in me is gone though, there are only 4 days of school left, I had a headache, so I caved. I walk into the office (where I am very well known, they know my number by heart and my voice on the phone) and there is Jack's dear sweet teacher whom I love waiting for me, and all the office staff watching me walk in. I say "what?" They inform me that a 911 call was just placed from Jack's classroom mere seconds before he called me, and that it has happened 9 TIMES (9 times? I don't remember Ferris being sick 9 times. That's because he wasn't sick Mrs. Bueller. He was skipping school. Wake up and smell the coffee Mrs. Bueller. He's just leading you down the primrose path...sorry. I automatically associate 9 times with that little gem) in the past 2 weeks and that an officer is on his way to talk to Jack. I burst out laughing and said "good, I'll wait". While we were waiting, one of the secretary's asked me if I was nervous about having an officer talk to him. Hell no I responded. He got himself into this, he can take it like a man. So the officer and I walk into the classroom, and Jack is turning 8 shades of white and green. The officer sits down and begins talking, Jack looks like he's going to throw up and/or cry, and the teacher and I can't make eye contact without giggling. Anyway, Jack fessed up to only calling them one time, and very helpfully ratted out his friend who had started the whole process. After the officer left, he still thought I would take him home! Ohhhh no pal. You are here for the duration now. He is also grounded and will be writing a letter to Orem City Dispatch. Hard way to learn a lesson, but...he also learned that if you do something wrong and you are the one that gets caught, it sucks. So don't be expecting a call from Jack anytime soon. He will not be using a phone until he is 18. Might make dating a little uncomfortable...Hi, this is Jack's mom. Would you like to go out with him Friday night?
Am I a bad mom for not feeling bad for him while he was squirming? Hopefully he will learn that I won't always be there for him when he falls, sometimes you have to just put on your big boy panties and deal with whatever mess you left there.
